The Kendrick Extrication Device (KED) is used in extricating and immobilizing patients when a spinal injury may be present, often from motor vehicle accidents or other confined spaces. The wrap-around design provides horizontal flexibility for easy application. Additionally, its vertical rigidity provides maximum support to the spine, neck, and head during rapid extrication. The Ferno KED immobilizes the patient’s torso, head, and neck to prevent further injury.

The KED does not need to be removed for other life support procedures and can provide patient stabilization during X-rays and other healthcare needs. This extrication device includes a wrap-around vest, an “adjust-a-pad” neck roll, two head straps, and a carrying case.

The wrap-around design of the KED allows for horizontal flexibility with vertical support. Its built-in handles allow first responders and rescuers to get a firm grip on the patient and immobilization device as one singular unit, aiding in safe patient handling.

This flexible backboard also adapts to a hip and pelvic splint with a simple inversion. The patient’s chest remains easily accessible for prehospital procedures thanks to the KED’s adjustable and fold-back sides. Color-coded straps make application of the KED quick and easy.
