The 3M Health Care multi-purpose monitoring electrodes with sticky gel adhesive and foam backing are clinically proven to stay in place for up to five days. They are available on strips of 3, 5, and 10 electrodes so that they can be quickly and easily applied to the patient and remain fresh for 45 days out of the bag.

Applying the 3M Red Dot Monitoring Electrode

Before applying the electrode, you must first prep the skin with soap and water. Application sites must be clean, dry, and free of any body lotions. If electrode adhesion is an issue, do not clean the skin with isopropyl alcohol. If alcohol is used, ensure that the skin is dry prior to applying the pad. Prepare the skin by removing any excessive hair from the area. Mark the skin by making an “X” on the skin with the abrader. (Use the abrader pad provided on the back of the electrode.)

After the area is clean and free of excessive hair, apply the electrode to the skin. Avoid pressing on the stud when the electrode is on the patient. Firmly rub your finger around the outside of the front label to activate the pressure sensitive adhesion.

Before removal, loosen one side of the electrode. Then, grasp the full width of the electrode, slowly and gently pull it back over itself. Always remove electrodes in the direction of hair growth whenever possible. Keep the electrode close to the skin surface as you peel it back and support the skin with another finger, which will ensure a pain-free removal for the patient.
