Penn Care employees participated in our second “We Care Program” which is a give-back program to benefit our community by performing charitable activities with local non-profits. Our employees collectively purchased 50 bags of tortilla chips and 50 jars of salsa, which were donated to Making Kids Count a local non-profit serving the Mahoning Valley of Ohio for their Summer Program.  Making Kids Count, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that believes that every child deserves to feel special regardless of circumstances.  They carry out their mission by providing multiple programs throughout the year.  Beginning this week, Making Kids Count will resume their Summer Program which will start delivering food to 50 families on a bi-weekly basis throughout the summer, totaling six deliveries per family. Families are chosen to participate in this program based on the number of children in their household and their eligibility for free and reduced lunch. For families that are not accustomed to providing breakfast and lunch throughout the school year, the summer months can prove to be difficult financially with the extra cost. Making Kids Count Summer Program goal is to provide fresh and healthy groceries that can be used for breakfast and lunch as well as all the ingredients necessary to make two meals for dinner. Each delivery includes two recipes for dinner prepared in a crockpot to show parents or children that it can be quick and easy to prepare a home cooked meal.
