Intravenous (IV) access is one of the most common patient care procedures performed by healthcare providers. These IV therapy procedures are performed in field settings by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, ICU medical centers, and hospitals to administer medications, fluids, and nutrition, and in cancer treatment centers for the administration of chemotherapy, just to name a few applications. Needleless IV tubing from Penn Care is a crucial part of an IV start kit.

To establish intravenous access, a healthcare worker will use disinfectant at the injection site for infection control and then use an IV catheter to access the patient’s vein. Different IV administration sets are used for certain medications or applications. IV extension sets are also available for IV therapy configurations that require more tubing.

This needleless IV system is constructed of PVC (without natural rubber latex) and packaged sterile for single use only. It is non-vented, so it requires priming to remove air from the tube. The IV set is equipped with a roller clamp to control the flow of IV fluid. There are two Y-sites, one pre-pierced and one Sure-Lok needle-free Y-site to reduce the risk of needlestick injuries. A rotating male Luer Lock connector allows the attachment of extension sets.
