Thomas Endotracheal Tube Holders by Laerdal Medical are designed to secure an ET tube in place after intubation. The Thomas Tube Holder is a state-of-the-art improvement over old fashioned tape fastening methods. In fact, these ET holders were ergonomically engineered from both the patient’s and the healthcare provider’s perspective to provide the most effective ET holder on the market today. Appropriate for first aid or a hospital setting, they are designed to secure both single and double lumen airway tubes.

Using the Thomas Tube Holder

The Thomas holder secures the ET tube in place via the use of a quick set screw that also facilitates easy removal of the tube holder without the bother and mess of tape. The push screw does the main securement of the tube, a normal screw allows for final adjustment, and the unlock button immediately releases the tube clamp. The large mouthpiece surface area allows for a wide range of tube sizes to be utilized, and allows for full access to the patient’s mouth for suctioning and other oral care needs.

The Thomas Tube Holder can be adjusted or even removed while not interrupting ventilation. It also features a bite block composed of pliable material that protects both the tube and patient. A wide head strap holds the Thomas ET Tube Holder securely, yet comfortably with velcro and will stay fastened even when wet. The head strap can be efficiently applied without any movement of the patent’s head.

Pediatric and Adult Tube Holder Options

Thomas ET Tube Holders come in adult and pediatric versions, and are color coded for quick, easy identification. The adult model fits airway device sizes 6.5 mm (inner diameter) to 21 mm (outer diameter). The pediatric model fits airway device sizes 4.3 mm (inner diameter) to 15.8 mm (outer diameter). Both model versions feature latex-free construction and are disposable.
Endotracheal tube holders are meant for single use of no more than 24 hours, and are not for use on children younger than eight years of age. This device should only be used by trained personnel and in accordance with the directions for use.
