Product Details

The MedSource Endotracheal Tubes are ideal for oral/nasal intubation and airway management. Endotracheal intubation is the process by which a tube is inserted through the nose or mouth into the trachea to assist a patient to breathe while under anesthesia or due to a distressed airway. It is one of the most common medical procedures performed in the world today. Reasons for intubation can include: opening the airway to administer oxygen, anesthesia, or medication, removal of obstructions, to help a person to breathe because of collapsed lungs, to allow doctors to examine the airway, or to prevent someone from breathing in liquids.

There are different reasons why a clinician would choose either oral or nasal intubation. Oral intubation is more easily accomplished because the patent is typically under anesthesia during the procedure. It is faster and less painful than intubation via the nose. In trauma patients, oral intubation is the preferred method when done with cervical immobilization. Tooth damage is one of the most common risks associated with oral intubation.

Nasal intubation, on the other hand, can be performed while a patient is fully conscious. Nasal intubation has more of a tendency to cause bleeding in the nasal cavity and increases the risk of sinusitis. However, the nasal route can be used to avoid laryngeal complications, is more comfortable for the patient, and decreases the possibility of injury to the teeth and oral cavity. Fastening the tube is also easier with nasal intubation, reducing the chance of extubation.

Benefits of the Uncuffed ET Tube with Stylet

Constructed of kink-resistant medical grade PVC, MedSource ET Tubes also feature a radio-opaque black line to assist in proper tube placement below the larynx. The tubes have clearly marked graduations in centimeters to help indicate depth of insertion. On cuffed versions of the tube, the pilot balloon allows for a tactile sense of cuff volume. Tubes are available cuffed or uncuffed and with or without a preloaded stylet. Uncuffed ET tubes are available in a range of two and a half millimeter diameter up to five millimeter diameter. Cuffed ET tubes are available in a range of three millimeter diameter up to ten millimeter diameter. The additional stylet allows the endotracheal tube to be molded and shaped as needed to facilitate proper intubation.

MedSource Endotracheal Tubes are individually sealed in a sterile package, with ten units per box. ET tubes are intended for single patient use only, and should be properly disposed of after use. This product is constructed of latex-free materials.
