Penn Care Now Offers emsCharts SyncPen

Reliable EMS / medical document scanning solution

Niles, Ohio, November 8, 2010 - Penn Care, Inc. has added yet another revolutionary product to its portfolio of offerings for the emergency medical services community. The recently launched emsCharts SyncPen is available to Penn Care customers for emergency medical patient documentation. While paperless documentation or electronic recording of medical data has made huge advances in the EMS field, this new device combines the best of paper-ink usage and technology. Using a real ink pen embedded with smart pen technology, emergency medical services personnel can simply fill out handwritten forms that will be transcribed directly into an electronic patient record in the emsCharts software.

Shawn Bryant, president, Penn Care Inc. says, “We are aware of the convenience, speed, efficiency and cost-savings offered by EPCR software. Our customers in the emergency medical services industry are increasingly going paperless with EMS records. However, given the nature of their services, i.e. emergency situations, sometimes the easiest and fastest way to record patient data is handwritten. With the SyncPen, EMS workers no longer have to worry about duplicating their efforts or losing valuable patient information and EMS data. They are assured that the forms and details they fill out will be recorded, as they write, accurately and in real time. This will certainly revolutionize the way EMS personnel perform their invaluable, high-pressure and highly skilled duties, without spending unnecessary time on record keeping. We hope that it will aid them as they continue the brilliant service they provide communities and we are delighted to be able to help.”

The emsCharts SyncPen takes digital snapshots of information being written. It also records the time each pen stroke was made and on what form it was documented. On completion of a form, all the EMS responder has to do is tap a box on the paper form to activate the data upload to emsCharts servers. Every element of the data is included electronically to the patient record and can be accessed for further reporting and analysis at emsCharts.com. In addition, an exact digital copy of the form is also attached to the electronic patient record in the system. This ensures complete documentation of the EMS call. Since all of the data is stored in the pen, and subsequently in emsCharts, the written form can be left with the patient at the hospital. EMS services personnel can better focus on patient care and improve outcomes by saving time and effort on patient record keeping.

In a recent news release issued by emsCharts, vice president, Pete Goutmann said, “The concept is innovative in that we’re taking paper and ink and turning it into data that can be processed in our system. We know that there is still a need for paper in certain applications within the EMS industry. With the SyncPen, we’re simply combining the two. The SyncPen can be used for patient documentation, signature forms, consent and refusal forms, and more. We’re expecting that our customers will come up with some very unique applications for this product.”
